Brett Ian Balogh was born in 1972 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He received his B.A. in Evolutionary Biology from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1999. Brett is currently working towards his master's degree in the Department of Art and Technology Studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois, and has just returned from his studies at l'Ecole Superieure d'Art d'Aix-en-Provence, an exchange program funded by the French-American Cultural Exchange (FACE)

Brett has exhibited nationally and internationally. He is a member of the improvisational sound collective Clairaudient that employs piano, radio, electronics and voice in the creation of live sonic environments. He is also an adoptee of the laboratory for research in audio art, Locus Sonus.

Brett is founding member of the Laboratory for Artistic Research and Development, a collective dedicated to exploring the roles of science and technology in the arts. The Laboratory currently has its home in Second Life.
