ARCH 433 | Digital Fabrications

This course explores fundamental concepts and skills in the translation of ideas into physical form through digital processes. Students engage in all aspects of making (computer aided drawing / modeling, digital fabrication, electronics design / construction and programming) as they design and fabricate an interactive architectural object. Focus is placed on system thinking as students learn to manage multiple, parallel threads of thinking and making throughout the development of their projects. Class discussions and activities will also explore current and future trends in the areas of digital fabrication including the burgeoning Open-Source/Do-It-Yourself/Maker movement in an effort to connect the architect/designer to the culture of making as a design practice.
